I recently moved here for a teaching position. This information is helpful. Several years ago, I visited my friend in el DF, who was living in Colonia Roma at the time. I was spoiled as she had a driver (!) who took me around to the city--life in the States is all what it's cracked up to be. Prior to my trip, I got tons of warnings from expat queer Latinos about visiting el DF. I was on the DL for much of my trip, but I had a great time--the highlight being the six hour "y tu, mama, tambien"-type road trip my friend and I took to Oaxaca City. Love your site.
