Two Gay Festivals and a Party

Two gay movies festivals will take place in Mexico City during this week. The first one is the 4th Festival of Gay Cinema dedicated to the Mexican activist Henry Donadieu, which will be hosted by the National Autonomus University at the Museo del Chopo and the Centro Cultural Universitario in CU.

The program is quite diverse, including classic gay films from the 80’s and some new—and still classic—movies such as Before the Night Falls, and the very first movie by the gay filmmaker icon Gus Van Sant, Bad Night. More interestingly, the festival will show a local perspective through the work of some young Mexican directors, which can be a life time opportunity if you happen to be visiting Mexico City.

The second festival is the Fictgay, or International Festival of Gay Cinema and Theatre, hosted by the Centro Nacional de las Artes, in the south of Mexico City. Unfortunately, we have not seen a definite program, so far. However, the closing party is a sweet promise of a crowded event featuring DJ O’Riordan, John Cameron Mitchell, Sonido Islandia, and Marcelo Cunning, mostly known by Chilangos living in New York or New Yorkers familiar to the Nacoteque concept.
